House of Phlegm and Misery update: we are all still sick.
If you are unlucky enough to get this, just take a handful on Nyquil and pass out for the duration. Being awake is too horrible. The worst part is the giant ball of God-knows-what that settles in your chest, takes up residence, and just generally sucks out your will to live. I will not however, patronize those people that advertise their product with loathsome animated phlegm "creatures." Ugh!
In other news, we decided to attempt an outing. Look, I know how insane it sounds. Things were getting ugly around here. We needed to get out of the house. We needed to get some sun on our pale sickly faces and some fresh, non plague-ish air in our collective lungs.
Poor Mr. Smith is a frustrated pilot. He loves flying planes, but my neuroses and our lack of funds keeps him earthbound.
We have tried a few times to go on the Balloon ride at The Great Park in Irvine, but it has been closed or it has been too windy. Sunday, we decided to take another stab at it.
After negotiating with the hot-headed Grand Master H, we were able to depart. He is a homebody and was more than a bit reluctant to get involved in this little adventure.
So, we packed everyone up and headed over.
Little did we know that there was a minimum of an hour wait (it ended up being a little longer). Luckily, they have balls, frisbees, and other fun stuff to borrow while you wait.
So we played, complained, sat and enjoyed the breeze and the sun, ran around, had a snack, basically killed time while we watched other folks go on their balloon rides.
It was a lovely day. It is a beautiful spot. It is actually a dirty shame that the land has just been sitting there for so long. It would have been a massive mistake to turn it into yet another airport.
To be honest, the flight was interesting, but only in an academic sense. As you can see, the view is expansive, but kind of boring. The hills are mostly brown, we have a ton of freeways. Yawn.
I know, the photos are a little boring.
They do have flights at night, so perhaps we will give that a shot next. I am sure the lights and traffic would look much prettier under the cover of darkness.
I guess the bottom line is that we had a nice time as a family. We were all together, it was a pretty day. They have open spaces, beautiful breezes and stuff for the kids to do. I can't ask for much more than that.
